The opportunity places Johnson inside one of Europe’s most competitive football environments and signals a major boost not only for her career, but for the continued rise of women’s football in Guyana.

RC Lens Women compete at the highest level of football in France, a league renowned for its quality, intensity, and global influence. Nicknamed Les Sang et Or (The Blood and Gold) in honour of their traditional red and gold colours, the club is steeped in history and professionalism. Training within such a setup places Johnson among an elite group of players striving to break into one of the world’s most respected football cultures.
The French women’s league is home to global powerhouses such as Paris Saint-Germain Women and Olympique Lyonnais Féminin—widely regarded as one of the most successful women’s clubs in football history. Exposure to this level of competition provides Johnson with invaluable experience as she looks to establish herself on the international stage.
Locally, Johnson’s rise has been anything but accidental. Known for her solid defensive awareness, tactical intelligence, and attacking threat, the quick-footed forward has been instrumental in delivering championship success for both her club and futsal teams. Johnson’s achievements were recently celebrated at a recognition ceremony hosted by the Guyana Defence Force following the GDF FC women’s Super-16 Championship victory organised by the Guyana Football Federation. The event was attended by Brigadier Omar Khan, other senior officers, representatives from the Sports Corps, club officials, and players, highlighting the pride and significance of the team’s success.

The ceremony also featured a symbolic coin flip representing discipline, sportsmanship, and unity. Several of the tournament’s top goal scorers and Most Valuable Players emerged from the GDF squad, underlining the depth of talent and exceptional performances within the team.
In an address, Brigadier Khan reminded the players that they are not only footballers, but ambassadors of the Guyana Defence Force. He stressed that their conduct, professionalism, and bearing reflect the institution at all times, urging them to strive for excellence both on and off the field.
The event also recognised individual advancements within the squad. Lance Corporal Glengie Lewis was promoted to Sergeant, while Lance Corporals Jalade Trim, Sandra Johnson, Glendy Lewis, Brinetta McIntosh, and Niomie Williams were promoted to Corporal. Recruit Aaliyah Christie was promoted to Lance Corporal, and Recruit Yaniera Kenswill to Corporal.
As Johnson prepares to test herself in France, she carries not only personal ambition, but the hopes of her teammates, the GDF, and an entire footballing nation.
