– Trophy Stall sponsors all the trophies for Big Man Cricket
Kaieteur Sports – This tournament was proudly sponsored by Peter Lewis Contracting & Asphalt Services, Permaul Trading & Distribution, Trophy Stall & Diamond Fire & General Ins Co Ltd.
The day began with light rain at the picturesque Albion ground, causing a 40-minute delay before the final could commence. However, this did not affect the number of overs. Vintage Strikers won the toss and opted to bowl first, allowing Albion Masters to take the initial swing on an excellent batting surface.
Openers Keith Fraser and Heeralall Bridgelall started cautiously but soon found their rhythm, capitalizing on the Strikers’ subpar bowling and fielding. Fraser’s innings came to an end at 124 after 11 overs, having taken full advantage of several dropped catches, finishing with an impressive 86 runs off just 36 balls, featuring 6 sixes and 7 fours. Bridgelall, who had been playing a supporting role, was later joined by Royston Crandon with nine overs remaining. Bridgelall shifted gears and began to unleash some exquisite shots, reaching 71 runs off 46 balls before rain interrupted play during the 16th over. He had struck 2 sixes and 5 beautifully timed fours. When the rain started, Albion Masters had posted a formidable score of 190/1 in 15.3 overs.
After a 120-minute delay to address the rain damage, play resumed, allowing Vintage Strikers a revised target of 118 runs in just 8 overs. With a daunting required run rate of 14.75, the Strikers needed to start aggressively, but they lost wickets frequently. After the loss of Andrew Lyght on the first ball, Richard Latif for 15 runs off 9 balls, and captain Troy Benn for 16 runs off 11 balls, the team faced a steady stream to the pavilion, ultimately finishing at 62/6 in their allotted 8 overs. Crandon was instrumental in the bowling department, claiming 2 wickets for 17 runs in his 2 overs.
The match was attended by Mr. Raj Singh, Chairman of the Cricket West Indies Masters Association, and Priscilla McIntosh, Marketing Manager of Diamond Fire & General Insurance Co Ltd. Mr. Singh led the presentation ceremony, congratulating Albion Masters on their impressive win and Vintage Strikers for reaching the final.
The following awards, generously provided by Trophy Stall, were presented:
– Winners trophy to Albion Masters along with a cash prize of $250,000
– Runners-up trophy to Vintage Strikers with a cash prize of $150,000
– Player of the Final award to Keith Fraser, including a trophy and a cash prize of $10,000
– Player of the Series award to Richard Latif, with a trophy and a cash prize of $10,000
Additionally, two centuries achieved during the tournament were recognized with trophies and cash prizes of $10,000 each for Richard Latif and Vinode Samaroo.
In his closing remarks, the Chairman expressed gratitude to all teams that participated in the 5th annual Big Man Cricket tournament and emphasized the importance of fitness for players, highlighting that masters cricket promotes healthier lifestyles and serves as “the second innings” for retired international cricketers and cricket enthusiasts alike.
He also announced that the next BMC tournament in 2026 will be an O40s 40-over format, gearing up for the IMC O40s ODI World Cup scheduled for October 2026, which will feature 16 countries and 72 matches.
