(Kaieteur News) – Veteran broadcaster Ron Robinson, A.A fondly called ‘Uncle Ron’ who died a week ago at his home was cremated on Friday following a service at the St. George’s Cathedral.
Before the service, tributes were heard under the foyer of the National Cultural Centre, Home Stretch Avenue, Georgetown. President Irfaan Ali was among those who euologised Robinson as an icon and hero.

“Ron was a master, one of the finest this land has ever produced through wit, humor and deliberate exaggeration he held a mirror before us that keen, playful personality will be surely missed. For many years, Ron also bore the flame of local theatre in both the good times and lean years of local theatre he carry the baton on,” President Ali said.
The head-of-state said too that it would be most fitting to honour Robinson by revitalizing the performing arts, particularly theatre. “Ron Robinson was a man of many calling he served his church, was part of the scouts movement demonstrating his commitment to shaping young lives. As a Rotarian he exemplified service and in motor sports he brought a keenness of man and spirit of enthusiasm,” the President stated.
Robinson, 79, recently celebrated 60 years in broadcast and many decades in theatre.
