Kaieteur Sports – Despite having the series in their clutches following a pair of opening wins, Guyana have found themselves in a peculiar situation with an in-form Barbados side on their heels and all the chips on the table, during today’s final battle for the series at Everest Ground.
Barbados have swung the pendulum in their favor after yanking the series back into a position of a possible series victory, after suffering back-to-back losses in Game 1 and 2.
The visitors never gave up, showing heart and fight as they bagged matches 3 and 4 to not only keep the series going, but placed themselves in a fantastic position to end the tournament 3-2 while breaking the hearts of the local team.
Guyanese Lomar Seecharran is currently the leading run-getter with 161 runs including the half-centuries, followed closely by Bajan all-rounder Natarie Lavine with 150 runs, including top scores of 65, 37 and 31.
As the only scorers with more than 100 runs in the series to date, both sides will rely on their other components to help secure a win.
With Afraz Khan and skipper Sahid Gajnabi also in good batting form, Guyana could look to win today’s meeting with the ball, having endured mixed results with the bat.
Barbados have been on a batting uprise after winning their last two games with Lavine, opener Jon-David Green, Kymani Inniss and Zdari Scantlebury being the X-Factors.
Bowling has been mediocre throughout the competition and despite some individual success, only medium-pacer Kjanni Inniss has managed to create a bit of waves.
As the leading wicket-taker with 5 scalps, the Bajan could extend his run today. Spinner Anahri Hinds and left-arm seamer Jahiem Springer will also play huge roles today for Barbados.
On the other hand, Guyana, have been decent with seamer Jasani Craig, leg-break leg-spinner Deshawn Ramnauth and left-arm orthodox Jaden Ganpat featuring in the top 6 of leading bowlers.
Extras have been a huge issue this series, as the inexperience of the young bowlers being exposed has resulted in most games recording an average of 15 additional runs per side.
Should both teams tighten up their bowling efforts while the batters knuckle down in the middle, today’s final could swing either way with hosts Guyana desperately needing this series win after letting the visitors off the hook, twice.
Today’s final is expected to bowl off at 10:00h, weather permitting. (Clifton Ross)
