Fisherman stabbed to death during brawl at Albion
(Kaieteur News) – One man is in police custody in connection with the alleged murder of a fisherman at Albion Front, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday.
The dead man has been identified as 34-year-old Franklyn Sauers, called “Franky,” of Glasgow Housing Scheme, East Bank Berbice.
Police in Region Six said the suspect is a 28-year-old fisherman of Albion Front. Sauers and the suspect were reportedly acquaintances.

Information gathered by this publication indicated that the two men had a heated disagreement earlier in the community, following which Sauers allegedly went to the suspect’s home to settle the matter.
Sauers’ wife, Varund Sehadeo, told reporters that her husband left their home around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday to travel to Canje to pick up someone before returning to Corentyne.
She said he did not return home immediately because he and the suspect had stopped to purchase snacks and other items for work the following day.
“Like about 9 something, the guy’s wife voice messaged me and ask me if my husband and her husband gone out together. I told her I’m not sure. She said she’s calling his phone and not getting through. So I video called my husband and he answered. I asked him ‘way yuh deh?’ He said ‘ah going and drop home Baba’,” Sehadeo related.

She said she subsequently informed the suspect’s wife that she had spoken to her husband, which appeared to ease the woman’s concerns.
However, about seven minutes later, Sehadeo said the woman called her again, this time screaming.
“She saying Baba and Franky jukkin up one another. She was screaming and there was a lot of commotion in the background, and she telling somebody ‘duh man dead, duh man dead’. I ask her what happened, she said Frankie and Baba juk up one another and Franky lie down on the ground and he ain’t moving.”
Sehadeo said she was particularly shocked by the incident because her husband and the suspect were close friends.
“That is what shocked me, because they were really close. Every single afternoon my husband go and pick him up and carry him to buy their stuff for the next day.”
According to police, the suspect was at his residence when Sauers allegedly entered the house, resulting in an altercation.
Police were subsequently contacted and ranks went to the scene, where Sauers was found lying motionless in the living room with what appeared to be stab wounds to his neck and left rib area.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and taken to the Albion Police Station, where he remains in custody.
Sauers was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor and pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was subsequently taken to Ramoo Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police investigations are ongoing.
