Kaieteur Sports – The stage is set for the sixth annual KFC International Goodwill Secondary Schools Football Championship. Yesterday, Petra Organisation, along with title sponsor KFC Guyana, hosted its customary uniform and ball distribution exercise for the eight teams that will feature in this premier football event. The tournament is scheduled to kick off today at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground and the Queen’s College Ground.
Brazil and The Bahamas will be making their first appearances in what has been touted as the regional “Champions of Champions” football series.

Defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation of Guyana will look to defend their title against strong contenders, including West Ruimveldt Secondary (RBL Under-18 Football League runners-up), Annai Secondary of Region Nine champions, St Benedict’s College of Trinidad and Tobago, Kingston College of Jamaica, and Nickerie Technical Institute of Suriname. Also among the contenders are José Vieira de Sales Guerra of Brazil and the Anglican Central Educational Authority (ACEA) of The Bahamas, both teams hoping for successful debut campaigns. Their inclusion makes this edition the largest in the tournament’s history.
KFC Guyana has injected substantial funding into this year’s tournament. At the launch, Chief Executive Officer Paul Subryan announced the construction of a 420-seat pavilion at the MoE venue, aimed at enhancing the overall spectator experience. Last Wednesday, the company commissioned the venue’s first seating area, unveiling the KFC Grandstand just ahead of kickoff.
Yesterday’s uniform and ball distribution exercise formally outfitted the eight schools that will be vying for supremacy from December 14 to 21.
Speaking on behalf of KFC Guyana, Marketing representative, Charmaine Farnum welcomed all the participating teams, urging them to play with pride, dedication, and good sportsmanship. In her brief remarks, she emphasized that the sponsorship goes beyond financial support. “It’s about investing in confidence, enabling young athletes with a much-needed platform to showcase their talent, and providing opportunities for young footballers to represent their countries with pride,” Farnum explained.
Petra’s co-director, Troy Mendonca reiterated the importance of all the participating teams, stating, “Without you, this tournament would not be possible.” He also highlighted the significance of government and corporate collaboration, extending gratitude to the Ministry of Sports, the National Sports Commission, the Ministry of Education, and title sponsor KFC for supporting the organisation’s vision and recognizing the need for an international grassroots tournament.
The tournament gets underway today from 12:30 hrs, with a ceremonial March Past opening the 2025 edition, followed by the opening clash between defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation and The Bahamas’ ACEA.
