Kaieteur Sports – Essequibo and Demerara notched up commanding wins yesterday as action in the Women’s Senior 50-Over Inter-county tournament continued across the East Coast of Demerara.
In a low-scoring game at LBI, Kumarie Persaud (11) and Laurene Williams (14) managed to reach double figures as Essequibo reached 70-10 in 21 Overs.
No other batsman got out the blocks for Essequibo, as the Berbice pair of Sherica Campbell (4-17) and young spinner Danielle Manns (3-15); kept a tight lid on the batting.
Sheneta Grimmond then blasted 38 off 41 with 5 fours as opener Campbell returned to score 10, as Berbice finished on 71-3 after 15 overs.
A wicket each from Persaud (1-22), Tramaine Marks (1-18) and Analeisa D’Aguair (1-5) returned wickets for Essequibo, who suffered a tough defeat.
At Lusignan, newbies Hinterland Women posted 105 all out after 28 overs, Sarah Bheir hit a classy yet gritty 34 off 76 balls (3×4), Feona Benjamin (15*), Tifeny LaRose (11) led the batting efforts.
Demerara skipper Kaysia Schultz (5-16) and partner Letisha Jordan (4-39), spun webs around the opposition batting.
A strong batting charge from Demerara, led by their top order saw them finish on 106-7 in 30.2 overs.
Openers Naomi Barkoye (20) and Tilleya Madramatoo (16) set the tone, while Jordon (12), Mahaden Dass (11) and Schultz (12*) steadied the chase for their team.
Benjamin bagged 3-30 to complete a good game while Grazil Thomas (2-14), added further confidence to the Hinterland ladies camp.
Action continues on Tuesday with another exciting double-header. (Clifton Ross)
