Kaieteur Sports – Bad weather has backed the Guyana Harpy Eagles into a tight position with time running out as they remain optimistic about their chances in reaching the finals, as they face off against the Leewards Island Hurricanes today at the Queen’s Park Oval.
Both Leewards and Guyana were robbed of either a full day of play or part of the innings, making today’s match a must-win especially for the Eagles whose chances at reaching the finals have significantly diminished.
The Hurricanes will bank on the expertise of Test opener Mikyle Louis, skipper Karima Gore, Carlon Bowen-Tuckett, Jahmar Hamilton and Jewel Andrew. All-rounders Nathan Edward and Daniel Dooram will also have important roles late down the order for the Hurricanes.
Over in the Eagles camp, tensions will be rising given the extent of the work left to be done, coupled with that of the weather. Majority of Guyana’s runs will come from their in- players in Kevlon Anderson, Raymond Perez, Matthew Nandu and as of recent Gudakesh Motie who scored what could have been a match-winning half-century on Sunday.
All-rounders Keemo Paul, who found some form recently, Ronaldo Alimohamed and Junior Sinclair have been useful during the tough patches and could yet again prove to be big for their team.
The lack of quality production from Kemol Savory will be concerning given his failure to convert after solid starts, while Mavindra Dindyal is also due a good score. Off-spinning all-rounder Richie Looknauth will also be crucial with the bat while his skills in the slow-bowling department alongside Motie and Sinclair is more needed.
Due to the stop-start nature of the season, the Eagles have yet to fully click and with stakes higher than ever, tonight’s result could likely wrap up the season for the Guyanese. The Hurricanes are currently in last place while the Eagles will be looking to move up the ranks from their 4th place spot.
Also as part of today’s round, the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force will play the Windward Island Volcanoes at the Sir Frank Worrell Ground from 9:00h, with the Day/Night battle between the Jamaica Scorpions and the Barbados Pride bowling off from 14:00hs at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy Ground.
