Kaieteur Sports – Guyana’s quartet of Tishawn Easton, Kaidon Persaud, Skylar Charles, and Javon Roberts delivered a stunning performance to win gold in the Men’s 4x400m relay at the South American U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.
The Guyanese team stopped the clock at an impressive 3 minutes, 14.40 seconds (3:14.40), edging out Colombia (3:14.87) and Brazil (3:14.89) in a thrilling photo-finish.
Their victory showcased excellent team chemistry, smooth baton exchanges, and a powerful anchor leg from Roberts, sealing Guyana’s place at the top of the podium.
While the relay gold was the highlight of the championships for the Guyanese delegation, the meet brought mixed fortunes overall.
Roberts would return to turn in another strong performance in the Men’s 800m final, clocking 1:51.98 to claim the bronze medal behind Peru’s Giancarlo Banda (1:50.86) and Brazil’s Carlos Domingos (1:51.64).
In the Men’s 400m final, Tishawn Easton placed fifth with a time of 48.25 seconds, while teammate Kaidon Persaud finished eighth in 53.06 seconds, both showing promise in a highly competitive field.
Elsewhere, Onesi Dunn (10.71s) ran fifth in the men’s 100, and Skylar Charles’s time of 21.94s saw him finishing seventh in the men’s 200m.
Rodell Greene’s leap of 14.93m, saw him narrowly missing the podium in the men’s triple jump, as he settled for fourth.
The athletes were guided by coaches Raymond Daw and Andrew Jarvis.
