(Kaieteur News) – A modern $128M fire station was commissioned at Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Friday. The new fire station was commissioned by Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Waldron.
The project was awarded to LF Global Inc. for $128, 608, 803.
The fire station was constructed in response to the February 2023 fire at the Parika Market. The new facility is strategically located to improve response time, enhance coordination, and ensure that firefighters can operate efficiently.
It forms part of a broader national effort to modernise the Guyana Fire Service, strengthen preparedness, and support community resilience, the ministry stated.
Minister Walrond said that the project reflects responsive governance in action, listening to citizens’ concerns and delivering practical solutions.
“This is more than just a building. It is a promise delivered, a promise to strengthen the capacity of the Guyana Fire Service and ensure that communities across our country are better protected from the threat of fires and other emergencies,” the Minister said.
She said that the project is part of the larger framework of Region Three’s transformation, pointing to major government investments such as the Bharrat Jagdeo River Bridge, Parika Port Development, and housing and infrastructure expansion.

A modern $128M fire station was commissioned at Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Friday. The new fire station was commissioned by Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Waldron.
“To support this growing hub of commerce and travel, essential services, customs, immigration, the Coast Guard, the police, and of course, a modern Fire Service, must all be in place. And that is precisely what we are building here today,” the minister said.
During her remarks, the minister further urged the Parika community and private sector to collaborate with the Fire Service in promoting prevention and safety awareness. “Today’s commissioning marks yet another milestone in our broader agenda to modernise the Guyana Fire Service, expand its national footprint, and ensure that every community, regardless of location, has timely access to critical emergency and rescue services,” she explained.
Permanent Secretary, Mr. Andre Ally in his remarks, commended the efforts of all stakeholders involved in bringing the project to completion, noting that the facility reflects the Government’s strategic vision for a modern, responsive, and well-resourced emergency system.
“This investment represents our collective commitment to strengthening national safety infrastructure. By equipping our firefighters with the resources and environment they need, we are not only protecting lives and property but also building public confidence in the essential services of our nation,” he said.
New fire stations are being established in key areas across the country to ensure that every region benefits from enhanced emergency response capacity.
