(Kaieteur News) – A river mishap in the vicinity of Buckhall Landing, in the Essequibo River on Saturday claimed the life of Andrew Christopher Bradford, called “Chris,” a 38-year-old pork-knocker of De William, West Coast Demerara and Caria Caria, Essequibo River.
Police said in a statement that an investigation has been launched into the incident which occurred about 20:00hrs. According to information, a speed boat which was being operated by a 41-year-old boat captain of Springfield, Essequibo Coast, was travelling in the same vicinity with five passengers on board, when it collided with a small wooden vessel that was operated by Bradford.
“As a result of the collision, the wooden boat capsized and the 38-year-old fell into the river. Several searches were conducted, but he was not located immediately. On Sunday May 17, 2026, about 10:40hrs, police ranks, along with members of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard and relatives, conducted further searches in the area. About 11:48hrs, the motionless body of the deceased was recovered from the river,” police said.
The man’s remains were escorted to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination, while the speedboat operator remains in custody, assisting with the investigation.
