WIN to decide next move after REO’s silence on Region 10 election
…party says it gave fair opportunity for action
(Kaieteur News) – The We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party says it will meet over the weekend to decide on its next course of action after receiving no response from the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region 10, Dwight John to its formal letter demanding the resumption of the suspended Regional Democratic Council (RDC) election process.

WIN’s representative, Mark Goring, confirmed on Friday night that the REO has not replied to the correspondence sent earlier this week. He said, “Based on the letter WIN sent to the REO, there is no response, hence, WIN decided to give him ample time to respond and act. Over the weekend WIN will meet and decide on a course of action, recognising WIN gives the REO a fair opportunity to act on the matter.”
This follows WIN’s 48-hour ultimatum issued through attorney Siand Dhurjon on October 12, demanding that the REO, Dwight John, reconvene the RDC and complete the lawful election of the chairman and vice chairman or face legal action.
The RDC election held last week, ended in a tie between WIN’s nominee, Mark Goring, and APNU’s Dominique Blair, with each receiving nine votes. Following the deadlock, John suspended the proceedings and said the matter would be referred to the Minister of Local Government, Priya Manickchand for deliberation and casting vote.
However, WIN’s attorney has maintained that the REO’s move was “ultra vires, contrary to statute, arbitrary, unreasonable and otherwise illegal.”
Dhurjon had noted in his letter that the law provides for successive rounds of voting.
WIN has maintained that the REO acted outside his authority and warned that it will take the matter to the high court if REO does not reconvene the RDC.
