(Kaieteur News) – The traffic bottleneck at the Grove/Diamond public road has been resolved and road works along the stretch of road are in its final stages, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill said on Monday.
The minister told reporters at a media briefing that the road has been opened to four-lane traffic.
“I’m sure the Guyanese people are happy that the road at Grove/ Diamond, which we have already moved it to asphaltic concrete, the final layers are going to be placed and the traffic is moving four –lanes; two lanes north, two lanes south. So that bottleneck at Grove has been resolved,” Edghill said.
The East Bank thoroughfare has endured significant stress, resulting from both the volume of vehicular traffic, as well as the weight of trucks, and both articulated and non-articulated vehicles.
The IDB is financing the upgrade of the roadway from Good Success to Timehri while the Government of Guyana will be funding the rehabilitation of the Grove to Good Success public road project which is estimated to cost $3.1 billion.
Additionally, the Minister of Public Works said that government is working with the contractors assigned to both the East Coast and East Bank roads to see swifter and smoother movement in the respective projects. He said they will be “ensuring we get better movement.”
The expansion and rehabilitating the East Bank road corridor is aimed at to easing the congestion and improve transportation efficiency and safety for road users.
