GDF stay flawless; Mainstay bag first win

Women’s Division One League…

Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Defence Force’s (GDF) Women continued their ruthless campaign in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Women’s Division One League, this time with an 18-0 victory in their most recent outing on Friday last.

Sandra Johnson was, again, the leading lady for the Soldiers’ women, sending five goals past the goal keeper when they took on Santos Football club at the GFF’s National Training Center (NTC) at providence.

Johnson netted in the 2^nd, 10^th, 14^th, 24^th and 30^th, followed by a helmet- trick off the boots of Shanesa Cornelius in the 5^th, 17^th, 51^st and 52^nd minutes. Braces went the way of Jalade Trim (19^th, 36^th), Glengie Lewis (40^th, 59^th) and Zuruna Ali (51^st, 58^th) while Glendy Lewis (7^th), Abioce Heywood (48^th) and Patsy Walker (51^st) also found the back of the net for GDF.

That game was followed by another lopsided, high- scoring encounter, in which Mainstay Goldstars FC rebounded from an opening loss to defeat Ann’s Grove United’s Women 10-0.

Sanika Fredericks opened the scoring for Mainstay in the 5^th minute while Leisha Fredericks extended their tally to 3-0 in the 9^th and 11^th minutes.

It was then that Ashley Cozier put on a show, netting in the 14^th, 15^th, 29^th, 45^th and 48^th minutes. Kacy Thomas (30^th+2) and Ruth Wilson (57^th) also added their names to the scoresheet as Mainstay secured their first 3 points of the tournament.

The Women’s Division One League continues this Wednesday, September 24^th with another doubleheader at the same venue. At 18:00hrs, Fruta Conquerors will take on the unbeaten Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC while at 19:30hrs, Monedderlust FC battles Rivers’ View FC.

The teams in the Women’s Division One League are competing for a $1M grand prize.
