Kaieteur News – A 28-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for breaking into and vandalising a woman’s home at Number 19 Village, Corentyne Berbice, Region Six.
The victim, Helen Kashi, 54, told police that the accused verbally abused her and threatened to burn her house down on Tuesday night because she supported the Azruddin Mohamed led, “We Invest In Nationhood (WIN) political party.
Police identified the suspect as Rameshwat Ramdat called Kevin and said the incident took place around 19:00hrs. on Tuesday.
The woman claimed that she was at her mother’s home when the suspect, dressed in a political party’s colours, turned up and verbally abused her for supporting WIN.
She further alleged that the man, who was accompanied by some other persons, even threatened to burn her house down.
Fearful, Kashi stated that she did not go home, but spent the night at her mother’s home.
The following day around 07:00hrs. (Wednesday) she went to her home only to find it ransacked and her clothes and other belongings thrown outside.
A gold chain valued $22,000 and $23,000 in cash were also missing from her home. A makeshift tabled attached to her home was also partially scorched.
Investigations are ongoing.
