Kaieteur Sports – Guyana Amazon Warriors will be looking to take full advantage of their opponents the St. Lucia Kings as they forge a way towards owning the number one spot, when the two sides play this evening at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.
With two commanding wins from a pair of games, Guyana will be keen on making it 3 wins from 3. The Kings, sitting at 5th spot will need a turnaround win to boost their chances going forward.
All-rounder David Wiese will have much to do as skipper, bouncing back from a no-result in the last game before suffering an 18-run loss to the TKR in the game before.
Johnson Charles, Tim Seifret, Roston Chase and power-hitter Tim David will have to push the batting for the Kings; the core of the team\s top-order.
The bowlers will have a bigger role in this due to the caliber of options available in Oshane Thomas and Wiese specifically in the pace department.
Guyana will however need to be weary of the looming spin threat presented by the Kings, with the Windies skipper Chase, alongside leg-spinner Tabriz Shamsi and veteran off-spinner Kharry Pierre.
But with Warriors skipper Imran Tahir fresh off a 5-fer in the last game, Guyana will fancy their chances with the ball as much as they should with the bat.
Current leading run-scorer for the Warriors and number 2 overall this season after a few games, Shai Hope; along with the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd, Ben McDermott and Kevlon Anderson have been the go-to men for their team thus far.
Their impact leaves significant room for the likes of; Mooen Ali, Dwaine Pretorius and Iftkhar Ahmed to officially get their season going with the bat if need be.
The former champs have also shown off their immense firepower in the fast-bowling department, with Pretorius, Shepherd and Shamar Joseph forming a dangerous three-headed attack.
Leading wicket-taker Tahir and Gudakesh Motie will continue to hold down the spin department as they have been doing over the years; with Ali proving to be the ideal last piece needed to help form another three-headed bowling monster for the Warriors.
With the tournament still in its infant stages, the Warriors will be seeking to adopt a winning mentality especially against teams currently positioned lower on the table.
Match bowls off from 19:00h, weather permitting.
