The Guyana Police Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying or contacting the family/relatives of the victim.
Kaieteur News – A man whose identity was still unknown up to press time, died on Monday in an accident along the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to the police, the incident, which occurred around 04:00hrs, involved a motorcar bearing registration number PAC 8964, owned and driven by a 24-year-old welder of Martyrsville, Mon Repos, ECD.
According to the driver, the car was proceeding east along the Montrose Public Road when the pedestrian ran from north to south across the road into his path. Upon seeing this, the welder applied brakes, but the collision occurred.
The pedestrian reportedly flung eastward and fell onto the road surface, where he received injuries to his body. The driver drove away from the scene but subsequently returned, police reported.
“An ambulance was summoned to the scene, where the pedestrian was pronounced dead. The pedestrian was placed into a police vehicle and conveyed to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s mortuary. The body is presently awaiting a post-mortem examination and identification,” police said.
The scene was visited by ranks where a notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver. The vehicle was examined by a licensing and certifying officer, and a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver, which showed no trace of alcohol in his system.
The Police Force is therefore seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the victim or contacting his family members.
The driver remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
