Kaieteur News – A 31-year-old taxi driver from Agricola, East Bank Demerara, was granted $50,000 bail on Wednesday for larceny.
Isaiah Lall, of Lot 70 Remus Street, Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD), appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before senior magistrate, Fabayo Azore who read the charge.
Lall pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that he, on August 9, 2025, at Avenue of the Republic, stole two gold bracelets valued $300,000 property of Nicola Craig.
While the items were recovered, the prosecutor objected to bail due to the prevalence and seriousness of the offence.
The defence was led by attorney Stacy Goodings, who told the court that on the day in question, her client was at Stabroek Market drinking with some friends when the police came and enquired about the driver of a car which belonged to Lall.
The attorney stated that the police instructed her client to go to the Brickdam Police Station in relation to a report made by an individual, which claimed that someone dressed in a red top and cream pants stole some items from them.
Goodings added that according to her client, there were several people dressed similar to him since there was a campaign in the area.
The court heard that Lall went to the station and was kept in custody. He was not placed on an ID parade and the police did not make contact with him since, until the day for his court appearance.
Magistrate Azore granted bail and the matter was adjourned to September 24, 2025.
