Kaieteur Sports – Kemar Beckford’s clinical hat-trick fired Slingerz Football Club to a dominant 5–0 victory over Ann’s Grove United on Sunday evening, as the Vergenoegen-based outfit tightened their grip on the GFF Elite League title.
In the other fixture at the Guyana Football Federation’s National Training Centre (NTC), Western Tigers kept their championship hopes alive with a commanding 5–0 win over Den Amstel FC.
Slingerz remain the only unbeaten side in the Elite League, while Western Tigers’ only defeat this season came in the first round against Slingerz. Their 1–1 draw in the second round stands as the East Bank Essequibo club’s only dropped points so far.
In Sunday’s opening match of the double-header, Slingerz wasted no time stamping their authority.
Defender Romain Brackenridge broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, before Beckford, currently the league’s top scorer with 19 goals, opened his account in the 26th minute.
The Jamaican forward struck again in the 44th minute to complete his brace before halftime, and sealed his hat-trick in the 82nd minute to put the game beyond doubt.
In between, Darron Niles netted his sixth goal of the season in the 61st minute to add further gloss to the scoreline.

Slingerz boast the league’s most potent attack, having scored 49 goals while conceding just three in 11 matches.
Coached by Jamaal Shabazz, Slingerz FC will return to action on Sunday against bottom-placed Mainstay Goldstar, while Den Amstel will aim to bounce back when they face defending champions Guyana Defence Force at the National Track and Field Centre.
In the night’s second fixture, Trinidadian forward Kevon “Showtime” Woodley put on a masterclass, scoring in the 10th, 42nd, and 45th minutes to complete his hat-trick before the break.
William Europe (18’) and Stephon Reynolds (62’) also found the net for Coach Charles “Lilly” Pollard’s men, who now sit second in the table, four points adrift of Slingerz after 12 games.
Den Amstel’s loss leaves them 8th in the standings, hovering dangerously close to the relegation playoff spot.
While Mainstay Goldstar look certain to drop out of the Elite League, Den Amstel, Fruta Conquerors, and Monedderlust are locked in a scrap to avoid finishing 9th, a position that would see them fight for survival in a playoff.
The GFF Elite League resumes this weekend with key clashes at both ends of the table.
