Kaieteur News- As The Waterfalls continues to share with you the readers the entrepreneurship journey of young people in our country, today we introduce to you, a talented artist by the name of Latoya Da Silva.
Twenty-three-year-old, Da Silva who is a professional make-up artist and hails from Georgetown is the proud founder and owner of a beauty and makeup business called Xclusiv Beauty – a business started in 2019.
Sharing with us as to what led her down this path, Da Silva explained that from as long as she can remember she has always had a passion for makeup and art. When she completed high school, she decided to capitalize on it by launching her own business.
According to her, “I did a brief makeup course with Glam Squad but most of my skills I developed on my own over the years.”
After deciding to start her makeup business, the young woman recalled it was not always as easy as it seemed. She stated that during her business journey, she had faced multiple challenges over the years.
“But the biggest (one) had to be managing a full time job and running a business. Not only was I left with little to no free time for myself but I also hardly had energy to put into the business. And as a result, my business basically stuck at one level and not growing for a little while,” she remembered.
Looking to change that, she said in 2022, she finally decided to quit her 9-5 job and putting all her focus and energy on building herself and business. “I haven’t looked back since,” she noted as the business started to pick up.
She expressed further that being in the realm of business for about six years now, the support from her family and friends has always been motivating and this she is grateful for. “From letting me practice on them to referring me to new clients,” they have always got her back she mentioned.
Asked what she is looking to achieve for Xclusiv Beauty as it continues to grow, she related that her goal is to expand her studio and create somewhat of a beauty lounge where she would have other services offered aside from what she does now.
At the moment those services are makeup, lashes, and eyebrow tinting. A lover of the arts, you should know this young entrepreneur is also the owner of Xclusiv Art where she does face painting and special effects makeup.
Meanwhile, when questioned about the role of small business owners in our society, Da Silva is of the view that young entrepreneurs play a crucial role in society.
“We challenge traditional models and push boundaries with fresh ideas, forward thinking and new technologies. This leads to the development of new and modernized products and services,” she elaborated.
With this being said, she noted that more can be done locally to help small businesses thrive. “Some things that I think can be done to boost small businesses would be to ease business registration, by making the registration faster and easier through digital platforms. Additionally, reserving a portion of government contracts for small businesses would also help to boost their success,” she suggested.
