Peace and quiet does cost plenty in Guyana
(Kaieteur News) – Dem boys seh sometimes yuh does get tired of all de noise, confusion and bacchanal in Georgetown. So dem boys decide that dem need some peace and quiet—somewhere to sit down, watch de sea, catch a little breeze and allow de brain to cool down.
So dem boys head down to de Georgetown Seawall, behind de Marriott, where de jetty does stick out into de water.
Dem boys seh, “This is de place. Nobody could disturb we here. Just de sound of de waves, de breeze and maybe a little bird chirping.”
Big mistake!
As soon as dem boys reach, dem hear music blasting from a car parked nearby. And when dem boys seh blasting, dem mean music loud enough to wake up people who been dead since 1975.
Dem boys look at de car and wonder if de owner planning to entertain de entire East Coast. One man was sitting down in de car, windows open, speaker boxes looking like two refrigerators that somebody had mistakenly connected to a radio.
Dem boys seh, “Okay, we gon move farther down to de jetty. Surely de jetty got peace.”
Another big mistake!
When dem boys reach de jetty, dem boys nearly get dem eyes hook out. Fishing lines everywhere!
Lines going left, right, straight, diagonal and probably international. Every man got a fishing rod, and every fishing rod got a line stretching into de Atlantic.
Dem boys seh, “If yuh ain’t careful, yuh could come here looking for relaxation and leave with a fish hook in yuh eyelid.”
But at least, dem boys seh, it quiet.
For about five minutes.
