Kaieteur Sports – Following an entertaining 74–70 victory over defending champions Ravens in Game One of the One Guyana Premier Basketball League Finals on Thursday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the Victory Valley Royals are now one win away from clinching the title.
Tip-off for Game Two in the best-of-three series is set for 9:00 pm this evening, and the Linden-based squad will look to seal the deal and dethrone the reigning champs.
But based on the back-and-forth nature of Game One, fans should brace for another hard-fought battle, with the 2024 champions Ravens expected to leave it all on the court in a must-win matchup.
Harold Adams led all scorers with a game-high 29 points, anchoring the Royals’ offense and helping them withstand a late Ravens rally.
Nikkoloi Smith paced the Ravens with 17 points, including key buckets during a fourth-quarter surge that nearly forced overtime.
The first quarter ended with Ravens holding a one-point advantage (15–16), with neither side able to gain a clear edge.

However, the Royals found momentum in the second period, outscoring the Ravens 22–16 behind a strong showing from Adams and the Tappin brothers, giving them a 37–32 advantage at halftime.
In the third, Adams, Yonnick Tappin (13 points), Orlan Glasgow (14), and Vibert Benjamin, who dominated the boards, combined for 20 points, helping the Royals build a 57–47 lead heading into the final period.
Ravens weren’t done yet.
Sparked by Smith, Alroy Nurse (14 points), and Terrence Daniels (11), the Georgetown-based team mounted a comeback.
Ravens exploded for 23 points in the fourth quarter, with one of the game’s highlights being a high-flying alley-oop dunk by Nurse off an inbound pass from Smith that cut the deficit to just one in the final seconds.
But the Royals held their composure at the stripe, converting clutch free throws down the stretch to secure the four-point win and move within touching distance of the national championship.
Meanwhile, the third-place game will see Pacesetters facing Colts tonight again at the Sports Hall starting at 8:00pm.
