Kaieteur News – A disc jockey (DJ) and a selector were on Monday charged with inciting the sexual assault of a 20-year-old Amerindian woman in Raghoo’s Bar at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The duo, Leon De Freitas, a 36-year-old DJ from Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and Ryan Rajnarine, a 30-year-old Office Assistant (and ‘Music Selector’) from Soesdyke (Back Road), East Bank Demerara, were charged under Section 3(3) of the Sexual (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:03.
The men appeared at the Friendship Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Wanda Fortune, who read the charge. They were not required to enter a plea and were remanded to prison until August 18 for disclosure.
The charge was laid against the two men even as the Guyana Police Force (GPF) is on the hunt for the main suspect who was seen in the video performing sexual acts on the young woman.
A wanted bulletin has since been issued for 28-year-old Barry Sullivan, of Icehouse Road, Timehri, EBD in connection with rape that occurred on July 13, 2025 at Soesdyke, EBD.
Last week, a heinous video circulated on social media showed the young woman being sexually assaulted in the bar and persons cheering and recording the situation. The bar has since been shut down by police.
The young woman was reportedly drugged and raped, the GPF disclosed on Saturday.
In a short statement, Police said that Technical Advisor in the Amerindian Affairs Ministry Laura George took the woman to the Timehri Police Station on Friday night where an official report was made.
“The 20-year-old was interviewed by ranks and alleged that she was drugged and raped by three males at Raghoo’s Sports Bar located at Soesdyke. The bartender and other persons of interest were arrested. Efforts are being made to contact other suspects and witnesses who were seen in the videos,” police said.
