Flying Ace Cycle Club assists young member with cycle parts

Kaieteur Sports – The Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) of Berbice continues to promote activities and assist its members in whatever way it could.

The FACC recently assist one of its young cyclists, 14 years old Diequan Rutherford with cycle parts so that he can compete in a cycle meet overseas. Rutherford, who hails from Eversham Village, Corentyne, Berbice, was in need of a pair of racing cycle wheels, so he could continue his dreams of being a cyclist.

The cost of the pair of aluminum wheels is $60,000 along with a ten-speed sprocket which costs $14,000 and a racing chain which costs $6,500. A total cost of $80,000.

According to a release from the club, Rutherford is now beginning his career and the club was glad to assist him so that he could get his racing cycle together and start his training.

According to Coach Randolph Roberts, when he heard of the Rutherford’s desire to become a cyclist and his plight in getting the necessary equipment, he immediately began to make efforts to assist the youth. He was successful in acquiring the necessary parts for the cycle, so that the teen can go forward in fulfilling his dream.

The youth was recently presented with the parts for his bike by President and Coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts. At the presentation ceremony he was accompanied by his mother.

Rutherford thanked the FACC for the gesture and promised to do his best to live up to the expectations of all. (Samuel Whyte)
