Mohamed misses court on tax evasion case

Kaieteur News – Businessman and president hopeful Azruddin Mohamed did not show up on Thursday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for his ongoing tax evasion matter.
Attorney Damian Da Silva who is representing Mohamed indicated to Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty that his client was traveling from Linden, Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice), after he was called by police for questioning, in relation to an issue that occurred on Wednesday evening at his family’s property. As a result of such he went to the station.
The matter was adjourned to August 7, 2025. Magistrate McGusty told the defense lawyer to advise his client accordingly, because the court would have an issue if his client continues to be absent. On May 29, Mohamed was charged with allegedly falsely declaring to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) on or about December 7, 2020, that he purchased one Lamborghini Roadster SVJ for US$75,300 instead of its initial cost of US$695,000, resulting in G$383 million in taxes being evaded. He was released on $500,000 bail.
