(Kaieteur News) – A Brazilian national was on Saturday stabbed to death at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, Region Seven, following an argument with a woman.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Antonio Pereira Figueredo, a 53-year-old gold miner of Manaus, Brazil.
Police stated that the incident occurred about 23:00hrs on Saturday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and his 50-year-old wife, were involved in an argument at their mining camp. “It is alleged that during the incident, the man received a stab wound to his abdomen,” the police reported.
Upon receiving the report, police ranks visited the scene, where the body of the deceased was found lying on the ground next to one of the camps with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen.
The police also revealed that a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the incident was recovered.
The suspect was arrested and taken to Bartica Police Station where she was placed in custody.
The man’s body was taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead and thereafter transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. An investigation is ongoing.
