Mohamed denies offering money to victim in ‘Doggie’ assault matter

Kaieteur News – Businessman and Presidential Candidate of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party, Azruddin Mohamed on Thursday denied all allegations that he offered to pay $500,000 to a woman to drop an assault matter involving Bradley Sampson, popularly known as ‘Doggie’.

Mohamed denied the allegations while speaking with reporters outside the Ruimveldt Police Station where he went in for questioning along with his lawyer Siand Dhurjon.

Kaieteur News understands that Mohamed went to the police station after a number of ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) stormed his private property on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) around 23:30hrs on Wednesday, asking to speak with him.  Mohamed was reportedly not at the premises at the time and the police went away.

Speaking with the media on Wednesday about the entire ordeal, he said, “Three van loads came to Providence, it’s a gated community. First thing is they lied to the security, they mentioned that they were going to Bikers Bar but they ended up at my property. They bullied their way in, I wasn’t there I was up Linden so they talked to my sister and my sister asked them what’s the problem, they said they wanna talk to Azruddin Mohamed, that was 11:30 last night.”

Mohamed said after learning about this, he contacted his attorneys and they went to the police station around 09:30hrs. “I was sitting there for four hours, I had two meetings to attend one at Wakenaam, over 100 persons waiting there to see me and one in Parika,” he noted. According to Mohamed, the allegation that was put to him by the police was “Obstructing the course of justice.”

Questioned about the incident involving Sampson who was seen campaigning for the WIN Party, Mohamed said, “I am against any person who abuse women. I’m against them and that is why I called the woman and I apologised on my behalf and my party’s behalf.”

Speaking with the media also, was Attorney-at-Law Dhurjon, who informed that the allegation against his client discloses really no known offence in law. “The allegation, its length and breadth is that he allegedly offered someone money – $500,000 to settle a grievance with a third party. Now there is nothing nefarious about that, in fact across the length of this country, courts would have encouraged parties, yall talk about it, yall try to settle it. So not only is that if it were true, frivolous, it is untrue,” he explained.

The lawyer stated also that while at the station, the police tried to call the woman for hours and even went to her address but could not contact her. He added that because the police were unable to contact the woman, Mohamed was let go.

According to both Mohamed and his lawyers, their telephone numbers are known to the police and they are willing and able to address all concerns with the police. This publication reported earlier this week, that the Guyana Police Force on Tuesday issued a wanted bulletin for Sampson, for assaulting a woman and in the possession of an illegal firearm.  On Tuesday afternoon, a cell phone recorded video of Sampson and a woman fighting at Square of the Revolution was shared on social media. During the heated confrontation, Sampson was observed whipping a gun out of his pants waist and pointing it at the woman. He was also seen hitting the woman who also retaliated.

In relation to the assault, the Police on Thursday in a statement said at 16:00hrs on Wednesday, a 29-year-old female Sales Representative and a resident of McDoom, East Bank Demerara, went to the East La Penitence Police Station and reported that on the 14th July 2025, she was beaten and assaulted by Sampson.

“The woman told the Police that she was employed by Bradley ‘Doggie’ Sampson, a key organiser in the political party led by Azruddin Mohamed, namely, We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), to perform certain tasks on Nominations Day for the said WIN party, and in return thereof, Sampson promised to pay her fifty thousand dollars ($50,000),” the statement noted.

At about 11:00 hrs on 15th July 2025, the woman went to the Square of the Revolution (Cuffy Square), Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, to uplift the payment from Sampson. However, Sampson only paid her ten thousand dollars ($10,000), the police reported.

While there, an argument erupted during which Sampson dealt her several kicks and cuffs about her body and lashed her with a gun to her head, causing her to receive multiple injuries. The woman further reported that Sampson later called her via Facebook Messenger and requested for her to meet him at Mohamed’s house at Green Field, EBD.

Upon meeting them at the location, the police claimed that the woman said “ (i) She was detained against her will at the premises by several armed security guards in excess of an hour;  (ii) Azruddin Mohamed shouted at her angrily when he learnt that the video of the incident with Sampson was already on Facebook; (iii) Bradley Sampson was present while all of this was taking place; (iv) Azruddin Mohamed instructed her not to pursue the matter against Sampson, to accompany Sampson to the Police Station, and to inform the Police that she is withdrawing all complaints against Sampson; and in consideration thereof, he will pay to her five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000).”

The police continued, “(v) one of the guards at the premises said to her, ‘Don’t feel I don’t know where you living in McDoom.’ He then raised his jersey and showed her a black handgun that was tucked in his waist. This resulted in her being fearful for her life. Eventually, she was permitted to leave the premises. However, between 7:45 and 9:00 hours on 16th July, 2025, Doggy called her multiple times on her cellphone, asking her not to pursue the matter, but she refused to do so.”

In relation to these allegations, the police said that is why they attempted to contact Mr. Mohamed on Wednesday night at the said premises “for the purpose of investigating the grave allegations made against him.”

Following the incident on Wednesday night, WIN in a statement condemned what they described as political persecution of their Presidential Candidate. “The Executive of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party strongly condemns the blatant violation of the rights of its leader and Presidential Candidate, Azruddin Mohamed,” WIN said.

The party detailed, that members of the Police Force bearing high-powered weapons, stormed private property around 23:30hrs asking to have a word with Mr. Mohamed. When asked to present a warrant, none was forthcoming.

WIN stated that the reckless action and abuse of power by the Guyana Police Force instilled fear in family members, staff, and onlookers present at the time. “We are therefore sending a strong message to the political directorate: we will not be intimidated. These fear-mongering tactics will not silence us, and we urge members of the Guyana Police Force not to allow themselves to be weaponized against political opponents of the ruling party. We believe this is a clear act of political persecution targeting our party’s presidential candidate, and we will not take it lightly. We will be raising this matter with the international observer missions currently stationed in Guyana,” the Party released.

Addressing the observer missions in their statement, WIN urged them to note, noting that democracy is not only measured on Election Day but by how political opponents are treated every day leading up to it. They therefore, call on them to speak up and intervene where necessary to ensure the integrity of this election process.

Further, speaking to the Guyanese people, WIN stated, “the time has come for each and every one of us to be guardians of our democracy. Watch closely. Record everything. Speak out. The future of our country cannot and must not be left in the hands of fear, intimidation, and unchecked power. Let the world know: we are a people who believe in justice, dignity, and the right to choose our leaders freely.”
