Kaieteur News – Dem always seh, “Yuh vote is yuh voice.” Well leh we tell y’all, if da is true, then nuff Guyanese voting in sign language, because after elections done count, dem can’t even hear a whisper much less a echo!
Dem boys know people does tek off dem slippers, walk through flood, and dodge pot holes like Olympic hurdles fuh go cast a vote. Big thing! Democracy in action. But soon as ballot box lock up, dem same people voice does vanish like GPL current during World Cup football final.
If vote is voice, how come when dem market people complain bout pickpocket and congestion, nobody hear? How come dem pensioners voice ain’t reach no ear when dem seh de lil money can’t buy bread and butter? Maybe de voice stuck in de ballot box. Or maybe it need a mic and amplifier from China.
Dem boys seh is like dis: during campaign time, your voice is symphony. Sweet sweet promises—more jobs, better roads, cheaper food. But after de swearing-in ceremony, your voice become background noise. Like a mosquito humming in a hurricane.
And talk about echo? When last anybody hear back anything from dem politician after dem done win? Is like shouting down a well. All yuh get back is silence—and sometimes a dry “We will look into it.”
Dem boys seh if vote is truly voice, then Guyana full of mutes. Is only one set of voice getting broadcast—and dat is from Parliament when dem fighting like school children over who sit where and who spend wah.
So don’t come tell we bout vote is voice. Unless dem gon start handing out megaphones with dem ballot paper, dem boys gon continue to whisper and hope breeze carry de message to State House.
Till then, keep yuh voice safe. Might need it to holler when dem raise de price of cooking oil again.
Dem boys seh, voice sweet… but results? Deafening silence.
Talk half. Leff half
