Kaieteur News – Regional Vice Chairman of Region 10, Mark Goring, has endorsed presidential hopeful Azruddin Mohamed, expressing disappointment that the collective opposition was unable to unite ahead of the upcoming elections.

Mohamed, a businessman, launched his political party We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) last month, pledging to invest in the country’s people, offer real solutions to national challenges, and bring unity to the nation. Last year, Mohamed was sanctioned by the United States for gold smuggling.

Goring, a former member of the Alliance For Change (AFC), made the endorsement in a Facebook post on Friday. “With less than sixty days until the General and Regional Elections, our country stands at a defining crossroads. Political parties are vying not just for power, but for the responsibility of managing our nation’s vast resources,” Goring said.

He described the opposition’s failure to form a united front as “deeply unfortunate,” especially in light of what he views as increasing authoritarianism by the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP).

Notably, the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition has so far failed to reach a consensus on contesting the upcoming General and Regional Elections together. While they held discussions, there has been no agreement between the two parties.

The Vice Chairman accused the government of weaponizing state institutions against dissenters of its “One Guyana” campaign. He added, “Corruption is not only unchecked, it flourishes across ministries and agencies. This regime is defined by discrimination, nepotism, marginalization, cronyism, bullying, injustice, and a systemic disregard for law and order. Yet, despite this record, it remains in contention for reelection, largely unchallenged.”

Explaining why he chose to endorse Mohamed, Goring argued that citizens are calling for change, fed up with recycled promises and empty rhetoric. “They demand leadership that works for all, not just the privileged few. We must build a government that lifts every citizen, where progress is shared and opportunity is real. The candidate I endorse is driven not by power, but by a genuine commitment to uplift our people. Over the past three years, we’ve seen this commitment in action. This is the only leader capable of uniting Guyana without prejudice or division. Together, we will build a nation where every citizen can thrive. Together, we will make Guyana great,” he said.
