Kaieteur Sports – The 2025 edition of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) Georgetown Regional Championship has reached its final stretch after an exhilarating weekend of semifinal action at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH). The competition, which spans the Boys and Girls Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18 divisions, is now set to culminate in a highly anticipated finals day on Friday, June 27.
In the Boys Under-14 division, St Stanislaus College (Saints) and St Rose’s High punched their tickets to the championship match with thrilling semifinal victories. Saints edged past School of the Nations in a tightly contested showdown, while Rose’s held off a strong challenge from Queen’s College (QC), setting up a highly anticipated clash for the title.
The Girls Under-14 bracket saw dominant displays from President’s College, whose ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams continued to impose their authority on the division. Both units have advanced to the finals, underscoring the school’s depth and developmental success in girls’ basketball.
Moving across into the Under-16 action, Saints turned up the intensity to defeat Queen’s College 26-19. Leading the charge was Demitri Crandon, who impressed with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Crandon’s inside presence was backed up by solid performances from Josiah Lee and Hartley Price, who added a combined 11 points to stave off QC’s challenge.
In the other U16 semifinal, President’s College narrowly got the better of St Rose’s High in a 32-29 thriller. Mattanaiah Fordyce led the way with 11 points and 6 rebounds, while Chazaiah Bernard added 8 crucial points to help seal the deal. Saints will now face President’s College Royals in what promises to be a heated U16 title decider.

The Under-18 division brought its share of drama and highlight-worthy moments. Queen’s College avenged earlier losses by defeating Saints 35-25, powered by a balanced offensive unit. Darren Dublin (9 points, 5 rebounds), Alan Patterson (8 points, 6 rebounds), and Reshaun Gurrick (6 points) all contributed key buckets as QC managed a commanding second-half surge to book their final’s berth.
Meanwhile, Government Technical Institute (GTI) turned in a strong team performance to edge President’s College 28-22. Raymond Paul was instrumental in the victory with 9 points, while Jaheim Barnwell’s rebounding presence and clutch scoring proved too much for the PC side, who struggled to mount a final comeback. GTI will now go head-to-head with QC for the coveted U18 crown.
With the semifinal dust settled, all eyes turn to the finals day on Friday, June 27, where champions across all divisions will be crowned at the mecca of local basketball, Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
The Georgetown Regional Championships, a marquee event on the youth sports calendar, continues to enjoy the generous support of KFC Guyana, along with Edward B. Beharry & Company, G-Boats Inc., and the National Sports Commission.
