Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Golf Association (GGA), in partnership with the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) Department of Physical Education, will host Guyana’s first-ever Inter-Collegiate Golf Championship on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Westside Golf Course.
More than 70 student-athletes representing eight of Guyana’s leading tertiary institutions are expected to compete in this historic event, which marks another significant milestone in the growth and development of golf throughout the country.

The GGA yesterday confirmed the launching of Guyana’s first ever collegiately-contested golf championship which will feature a number of top institutions.
The championship, hosted at the Westside Golf Course, will become an annual fixture on Guyana’s sporting calendar.
Through the exclusive efforts of the Guyana Golf Association and NexGen Golf Academy, the rapid expansion of school golf programmes has created a natural pathway for students to continue their involvement in the sport at the tertiary level.
Guyana Golf Association President Aleem Hussain emphasized the importance of the tournament in the sport’s development. “The Inter-Collegiate Golf Championship represents the next stage in our vision of creating a complete player development pathway in Guyana. Over the past few years, we have introduced thousands of students to golf, and many of those young players are now pursuing tertiary education. This championship provides them with an opportunity to continue competing while representing their institutions with pride. We are delighted to partner with CPCE to launch what we expect will become one of the premier annual sporting events for colleges and universities in Guyana.”
CPCE Physical Education Coordinator Mr. Alque Stanley praised the initiative and its educational value.
“Golf teaches discipline, integrity, concentration, and decision-making—qualities that complement the educational experience. We are excited to collaborate with the Guyana Golf Association in providing students with another avenue for healthy competition and personal development.”
The GGA remains committed to expanding access to golf at every level of society and looks forward to welcoming participants, faculty, supporters, and sponsors to this landmark event.
