Kaieteur sports – West Coast Warriors chalked up their fourth victory to be at the top of the points’ table after beating Dave West Indians Import Cricket Club (DWIICC) by a resounding, 85-run margin last Sunday at Beach 32 ground in the continuation of the 2025 New York National Cricket League (NYNCL) 30-over round-robin competition.
They have played five matches now with one game abandoned due to rain.
They were asked to bat first and rallied along to a formidable 290-4 at the conclusion of the 30-overs while DWIICC, in reply, were all out for 204 in the 28th over.
Naipaul Iyana scored a delightful, 52-ball 111 but his century was in vain. He struck 11 sixes and seven fours while Vedeshpaul Singh offered some resistance as well with 31.
Youghestir Bachan and Brandon Cabose picked up two wickets apiece conceding 23 and 28 runs respectively. Both sent down six overs each for West Coast Warriors on a lively surface.
When the unbeaten West Coast Warriors team batted, former Guyana youth player Kevin Christian continued his prolific run since the start of the season recording four half-centuries now.
He slammed a brilliant 93 to lead the way for the winning combination while Chandrapaul Persaud hit a blistering, unbeaten 84 laced with eight sixes and five fours from 39 deliveries.
Christian’s innings was characterized with four sixes and seven boundaries spanning 70 balls.
Christian appeared at the crease after West Coast Warriors losing their first wicket without a run on the board. Rajendra Khan was victim but Christian and Bachan (58) repaired the early damage with a steady, 144-run second-wicket stand.
As the innings progressed, Persaud and Avi Dhanpaul were also belligerent staging an absorbing, 114-run fifth-wicket partnership.
Dhanpaul contributed 39 as Carlos Bachu claimed 2-52 from six expensive overs while Iyana also in the wicket-column accounted for a pair of wickets as well but for 53 runs in his 6-over spell.
West Coast Warriors will be back in action on Sunday against Whim Boyz at Baisley Pond venue, while DWIICC will meet up Tri County Cricket Club at Whitestone ground.
Sixteen teams are currently participating.
