Dear Editor,
I am compelled to raise several concerns and request urgent clarification regarding the recent official visit to Japan by the accompanying delegation.
Foremost among the issues is the presence of the Minister’s wife on the trip. There has been no official communication outlining the capacity in which she participated. If she holds no formal or advisory role within the Ministry, her inclusion on an international mission funded by public resources raises serious questions of propriety, governance, and transparency. Citizens have a right to know whether this reflects a misuse of ministerial privilege or whether a justifiable rationale exists for her inclusion.
Equally troubling is the nature and quality of the cultural performances delivered during this visit. Public feedback has described the presentations as lackluster and of a generally mediocre standard—an unfortunate representation of the rich and diverse talent that exists in our country. This naturally prompts the question: on what basis were these individuals selected? Was there an open call, a panel of experts, or a structured audition process to determine who would represent our nation? Or was the selection driven by personal connections and favoritism?
When our country is represented abroad—particularly in countries like Japan with strong cultural traditions and diplomatic sensitivities—it is imperative that we present our very best, both in terms of professionalism and artistic merit. These trips should not be treated as perks for the privileged few, but as serious diplomatic and cultural engagements requiring careful thought and planning. The ministry owes the public a clear, comprehensive explanation—not only regarding the Minister’s wife’s involvement but also the selection criteria, funding sources, and intended outcomes of this trip. Transparency is not optional in public life; it is a foundational expectation.
Yours sincerely
R. Rampertab
