Kaieteur News- Three weeks after 32-year-old Daniel Inshanali went missing at sea, his body is yet to be recovered, and family members remain despondent.
Inshanali and 17-year-old Vishaul Parmanand, disappeared at sea on April 8, were reported missing after their boat was discovered drifting off the coast, near Tain Beach, Corentyne. Vishaul’s father, Mohindranauth Parmanand, had purchased a new boat from Crabwood Creek, when Inshanali and the younger Parmanand immediately journeyed to Rosignol, West Coast Berbice by sea.
Parmanand’s decomposed body was recovered some 10 days after the incident on the foreshore of Kendalls Village, Corentyne, Berbice by another fisherman, who immediately alerted relatives and police.
“Ranks responded accompanied by the deceased’s father, Mohit Parmanand, 54, and brother, Rohan Parmanand, 30, both of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice,” police stated. Upon arrival, officers found the body clad in multi-colored short pants and a pink T-shirt—clothing that matched what Vishaul was last seen wearing. No visible marks of violence were observed, although police noted this could be due to the body’s advanced state of decomposition.
Meanwhile, Inshanali’s wife, Rebecca, expressed deep sorrow and fear that her husband may have met a similar fate.
“I think the same thing that happened to the boy also happened to Daniel,” she said. “He won’t leave the children like that. He would call and check up on them. We miss him. I just want his body to be found, even if he was found dead,” she added, holding back tears.
Regional Commander of Region 6, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, confirmed that there is no update on Daniel’s whereabouts. However, he could not confirm whether the police are still actively searching for his body.
“Both men then filled up the boat and departed from Crabwood Creek, heading to Rosignol, West Coast Berbice by sea,” the father told police. But when the boat failed to arrive by 17:00hrs that day, Mohindranauth tried to contact his son, receiving no response. The following morning, around 10:00hrs, he was informed that the vessel had been seen drifting near Tain Koker, Corentyne, with the engine still attached—yet both men were missing.
