Kaieteur News- A former Sherriff security officer was on Friday remanded to prison, when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on a murder.
Twenty-Five-year-old Akeem Blackman of Jonestown Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, appeared before senior magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Blackman was not required to plea to the indictable charge, which alleged that on April 4, 2025 on Seawall Road, Kingston Georgetown, he murdered Balram Persaud.
The prosecution told the court that on the day in question, the defendant and the now deceased man had an altercation at the Kingston Seawall around the bandstand area.
As a result of the incident, the accused dealt the victim several blows to his head causing him to be hospitalised. Persaud succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment.
Magistrate Azore remanded Blackman until his next court appearance, scheduled for June 6, 2025.
