29 bidders in race for $499M Parika waterfront project

(Kaieteur News) – The Ministry of Public Works has received 29 bids for its project, the construction of a stelling access road, waterfront drainage system and parking apron which will form part of the Parika Waterfront Development Project in Region Three.

The project which opened recently at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office is estimated to cost $499,041,450.

First concrete poured for the Parika Modern Port Facility and Waterfront development which was announced by President Irfaan Ali on Saturday via his Facebook page.

According to NPTAB, the bidders are as follow: Holistic Contracting & Procurement Inc. – $501,709,100; B.M Property Investments Inc. – $499,045,400; Basheir & Son’s Construction Inc. – $466,917,200; Crown Road & Drainage Contractors – $423,353,150; B.K International Inc. – $515,503,100; MJ’s Contracting & General Supplies – $484,932,750; AJM Enterprise – $498,138,550; A.M.I.C General Contracting Service – $476,478,400; Advanced Site Development Inc. – $497,558,100; Aronco Services Inc. – $600,086,175; D. Chowkai & Sons Construction – $496,749,100; DCSN Construction & General Supplies Inc. – $499,364,200; and Platinum Sales & Services – $472,682,500.

The other bidders are LongReach Investments & Construction Inc. – $409,686,809; Ivor Allen – $489,463,300; A&S General Contractors Inc. – $43,507,665; R&N Construction Services – $430,279,425; Hana’s Construction, Cleaning Service and Supplies – $473,905,263; J. A contractor for the project will be awarded when the tender evaluation process is completed.

This publication reported that the new Parika Modern Port Facility is an approximately $10.5 billion project being undertaken by the government through Ministry of Public Works and is expected to be completed in 2029.

Phase one of the project which is being undertaken by GAICO Construction, Toolsie Persaud and A&S General Contractors is already underway. Phase one includes land reclamation and sea defence on the North and South sides of the current stelling and the construction of the main concrete stelling, all totaling under $5billion.

During a multi-stakeholder engagement and consultation meeting with residents, business owners and other stakeholders at the Parika Market tarmac last year, Public Works Minister Juan Edghill noted that the operation of the ferry and water taxi services will not be interrupted during the construction phase.

Government said the project will transform the Parika stelling into a major regional hub for transportation and socioeconomic activities and enhance operational efficiency, prioritise safety and guarantee commuters’ comfort.

Additionally, the new modern port is aimed at increasing trade and tourism along the Essequibo Coast. Kaieteur News understands that the upgrading of the stelling is also to facilitate the arrival of the new Regional Ferry Service that will operate out of Guyana from Parika.

President Irfaan Ali announced last year, that the new facility will include the construction of a marina to support the country’s tourism sector. Notably, he said to support the port, some key infrastructure, including the construction of a modern Customs and Immigration office, a modern fire service, a modern coast guard building, a modern police service, and importantly to support the farmers, they intend to invest in a modern storage facility. The Parika Stelling, which borders the Essequibo River, serves not only as a passenger loading and offloading area, but also as a waterfront where farmers take their produce from the hinterland to sell.
