Family of dead Tuschen girl demands probe by Int’l investigators, independent pathologist
…wants police to disclose SOPs followed after incident was reported
Kaieteur News- Family members of the now-dead 11-year-old Adrianna Younge are demanding a thorough probe by international investigators, following her mysterious death.
The family has called for an international probe into the circumstances surrounding the death of little Adrianna Younge and for an independent pathologist to be hired. In a public interview, the child’s aunt, Ameka Lewis, said, “We are demanding an international autopsy for my niece. We do not know the local pathologist that they have because all of them are affiliated with the PPP.”
Meanwhile, the family’s Attorney, Darren Wade, during the interview argued that the Regional Security System (RSS) is “incompetent” given the recent investigation into the death of the Henry boys. He said, “I noticed some pathologist is coming from Barbados. They consider him an international person (but) we want the FBI. We don’t trust anybody from the Caribbean Community, anybody that comes from Barbados anywhere; we want international persons. We want the FBI to be involved here, not anybody from the Caribbean Community.”

Mourning family members of the dead girl have called on the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to release the video footage they claim to possess, allegedly showing the child leaving the hotel. It should be noted that the police subsequently indicated that the statement was inaccurate.
Family members are also calling for the police to publicly disclose the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that were followed after the incident was reported. They have rejected the proposal made by President Irfaan Ali to have the Commissioner of Police assemble a special team to lead the investigation into the death of the 11-year-old girl.
The body of the child was found floating in the pool of the Double Day International Hotel and Bar, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, on Thursday morning, after she was reported missing around 14:00hrs on Tuesday. The lifeless body of Younge was pulled out of the water by her father, Subrian Younge, amid heated protest action.
Attorney-at-law Darren Wade met with family members of the child, including her parents and aunt, Ameka Lewis, on Thursday. In a statement, the lawyer explained that he was approached by the child’s aunt on Wednesday evening, who requested a legal intervention, following a series of unsuccessful efforts to persuade officers of the GPF to conduct a comprehensive search of the hotel premises.
Wade said, “Despite the urgency of the situation involving a missing child, the police initially refused to carry out a sweep of the building and compound. Attempts were made to contact the Commissioner of Police via mobile phone to escalate the matter, but the calls went unanswered.” The lawyer acknowledged that given the time the call was made to the Commissioner, it is possible that he may have been resting.
In the meantime, the attorney-at-law said the family has complained of being misled by the GPF after pleading with the ranks for several hours to take immediate action to no avail. Further, the family has also taken note of the misleading and false statement issued by the Police Force that the child was seen leaving the hotel premises in a car.
To this end, Wade made it clear, “As a result of their experience, the family has lost confidence in the Guyana Police Force to conduct a fair and thorough investigation.” Consequently, the family is calling for the services of international investigators and an independent pathologist to be hired immediately to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice in the handling of this tragic matter.
The lawyer said that the police have expressed interest in speaking with the child’s father, but he has indicated that this will only be facilitated in the presence of his legal counsel.
