SportsMax – Kamari Kennedy of Jamaica has been named the Austin Sealy Award winner for the most outstanding athlete at the 52nd CARIFTA Games, which concluded Sunday night at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

Kamari Kennedy of Jamaica has been named the Austin Sealy Award winner for the most outstanding athlete at the 52nd CARIFTA Games.

Kennedy, a dominant force in the field, captured two gold medals in record-breaking fashion, rewriting the meet’s history books in both the U17 Boys Shot Put and Discus Throw. His performances not only asserted Jamaica’s field event dominance but also made an irrefutable case for the prestigious honour.

The 16-year-old opened his medal campaign with a lifetime best of 18.90m in the shot put, erasing the previous CARIFTA Games record of 18.80m set just last year by compatriot Javontae Smith in Grenada. Kennedy then returned on Sunday to deliver a sensational throw of 60.87m in the discus — shattering the old record of 53.32m set in 2019 by over six metres.

His extraordinary efforts earned him the coveted award, which was presented by NACAC President Mike Sands during the Games’ closing ceremony. Kennedy follows in the footsteps of another Jamaican standout, Roshawn Clarke, who won the award in 2023.

While there were several worthy contenders — including Eagan Neely of The Bahamas and Shanoya Douglas of Jamaica, both of whom won four gold medals across individual and relay events — it was Kennedy’s unmatched dominance, record-breaking margins, and technical brilliance that ultimately set him apart.
