Trinidad Express – The father of a prison officer was shot dead by criminals who demanded his service pistol and money in a home invasion on Carnival Monday night.
Suresh Ramsumair, 62, was shot in the head when three armed bandits ambushed him and his family.
That morning, Ramsumair, with his wife and other family members, attended J’ouvert celebrations in his community.
When they returned to their Penal home and drove into their garage around 10.30 p.m. they were ambushed as they were exiting their car and forced into their home.
The criminals, armed with a firearm and a cutlass, instructed them not to turn on the lights in the house.
They demanded cash, jewelry and the service firearm of the prison officer who is attached to the prison in Port-of-Spain.
Ramsumair and his family said they had none, and the intruder armed with the firearm shot him in the head.
The elderly man slumped in a chair in his living room and died.
The killers fled the house and escaped.
