Kaieteur News-Demerara Distillers Limited has announced plans to upgrade its rum storage capacity with the construction of a new $730 million barrel aging warehouse at its Plantation Diamond, East Bank Demerara facility.
DDL in a statement on Thursday, said that the new warehouse called Warehouse N, will be designed to accommodate 30,000 barrels of rum, bringing the company’s total capacity of rum storage to 130,000 barrels. “Designed to accommodate 30,000 barrels, the new warehouse brings DDL’s total aging and storage capacity to 130,000 barrels. This expansion supports the company’s ability to meet rising international demand for aged Demerara Rums while preserving the signature quality and rich flavours that define Demerara Rums,” the company stated.
DDL emphasized that this $730 million for a new warehouse is an investment in the company’s future growth. In a recent meeting with the Board of Directors, Chairman of DDL, Komal Samaroo, highlighted the importance of the new warehouse. “As the demand for premium aged rums continues to grow, this new facility ensures that we can continue to deliver our award-winning rums while upholding the rich heritage and craft that have made Demerara Rums a household name for rum connoisseurs globally. The warehouse represents another milestone in our journey to solidify Guyana’s position as a leader in the aged rum industry,” he said.
The statement continued, “With increased storage capacity and improved efficiency, the new facility will support the long-term aging process, ensuring that every bottle of Demerara rum delivers the rich, signature flavours that rum enthusiasts worldwide have come to love.”
Demerara Distillers Limited has been a pioneer in the aged rum category, having launched El Dorado 15-Year-Old rum in 1992. A critical part of its operation involves aging rums in oak barrels for periods ranging from one year to as long as 50 years. In addition to El Dorado, DDL is also known for producing the El Dorado Range of rums, Diamond Reserve Rums, and Ivanoff Vodka.
