KFC Elite League Season Six
– Guyana Defence Force resumes season with tribute to goalkeeper Enoch Carmichael
Kaieteur Sports – Western Tigers Football Club clinched a narrow 3-2 victory over Santos Football Club, while Monedderlust Football Club asserted dominance with a commanding 4-1 win against Ann’s Grove United Football Club in Saturday’s KFC Elite League Season Six fixtures.
In the first June 13 match, Monedderlust FC opened the scoring with a spectacular goal from Rayon Rose in the 23rd minute, followed swiftly by goals from Lomar Reed in the 27th minute and Terique Benn in the 30th minute, giving them a commanding lead at halftime.
However, Ann’s Grove United FC managed to breach the Berbice side’s defence with a 52nd-minute goal from Travis Williams. Yet, Atlyn Brown added another goal for Monedderlust FC, sealing the match with a final score of 4-1.
The evening’s final match featured a fiercely contested battle between two Georgetown rivals, Western Tigers FC and Santos FC.
Rondel Peters of Western Tigers FC struck first in the 14th minute, but Santos FC’s Bevney McGarrell quickly responded with a goal in the 15th minute. Just before halftime, Michael Oie scored for Santos, giving them a 2-1 lead.
In the second half, Western Tigers FC regained momentum with Randolph Wagner finding the net in the 68th minute.
Despite this, Santos FC continued to press forward, with Ryan Dowding narrowing the gap with a goal in the 83rd minute. However, Santos FC could not breach their rivals’ defence again before the final whistle, resulting in a 3-2 victory for Western Tigers.
The season resumed on July 11 following the tragic passing of Guyana Defence Force Football Club goalkeeper Enoch Carmichael, who collapsed during a practice session on July 3.
The Guyana Defence Force team paid tribute to their teammate by wearing T-shirts with the slogan “Forever With Us Enoch.”
The army side maintained their unbeaten record with a commanding 7-0 win against Buxton United FC. Kelsie Benjamin led the scoring with three goals in the 28th, 35th, and 45th minutes, supported by Obuchi Benjamin’s strike in the 30th minute, giving the defending champions a substantial lead at halftime.
In the second half, Lennox Young scored in the 76th minute, followed by goals from Delroy Fraser ten minutes later and Shemar Scott in the 87th minute, securing another emphatic victory for the team.
In the opening match, Den Amstel FC secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Fruta Conqueror FC with a late goal from Andrew Hector in the 58th minute.
All four matches took place at the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) National Training Centre in Providence, East Bank Demerara.
The top three teams in the league standings remain unchanged: Guyana Defence Force, Slingerz FC, and Guyana Police Force FC.
Meanwhile, Buxton United remains rooted at the bottom of the table with only one draw to their name.
