Kaieteur News – Police on Friday nabbed man who allegedly robbed two Venezuelan women at gunpoint on July 8 last, along the Providence Access Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD). The suspect identified as Quincy Barker, a 27-year-old taxi driver of Timehri, East Bank Demerara, was captured around 21:30hrs at Kwebanna Village, North West District, Region One.
The victims, Maria Rodriguez Caballero and Shelyla Toledo Rodrigues alleged that man had robbed them at gunpoint.
They reportedly hired his taxi around 22:00hrs on July 8 after work. However, instead of taking them home, the suspect allegedly drove them to a deserted location and held them at gunpoint and demanded that they hand over their valuables. The victims reportedly put up a fight but he overpowered them and stole their cash and cell phones from their handbags.
Kaieteur News understands one of the women was reportedly tossed out of the car while the other jumped out of the moving vehicle, after he attempted to kidnap her.
Police stated on Sunday that the suspect admitted to robbing the women but denied using a gun to do it. He claimed that his weapon was an ice-pick.
Investigations are ongoing.
