CWI Rising Stars 3-Day tournament…Guyana vs. Barbados Round 1…
Kaieteur Sports – Barbados drew first blood thanks to a united effort, as they handed Guyana an 80-run loss yesterday following the end of Round 1, played in St. Vincent.
Guyana would end on 191 all out batting a second time with the initial deficit approximately 300 runs. Zynul Ramsammy was Guyana’s anchor with 76 while other forms of contribution came in bits and pieces, with Isai Thorne (19), Mavindra Dindyal (17), Zachary Jodah (13) and Shamar Yearwood (12).
Barbados’ star with the ball in the 2nd innings was Isaih Folkes who grabbed 4-66 while Nathan Sealy (3-46) and Jaden Leacock (2-22), lending ideal support to the aforementioned Folkes.
The Guyanese 2nd innings and their chase, got off to a bad start as they lost 5 wickets for under 100 runs after Folkes and company made inroads at timely intervals.
After a top-order collapse, Ramsammy steadied the ship and led the counter-attack with 9 fours and a six, only to run out of the few partners he had remaining, after pressing onwards after he reached his half-century.
Barbados’ 1st innings 302-9 with a string of half-centuries, helped set the tone for their team on Day 1. Guyana’s reply was insufficient as they only managed to post 183 all out in their 1st innings after Aryan Persaud (31) and Shemar Yearwood (30), Joshua Rampersaud (32) and Rampertab Ramnauth (27), led the fightback.
Opener Zion Brathwaite then struck 51 not out, Joshua Dorne (42) and Joshua Morris (37) to take the Bajan side to 152-4 in their 2nd innings. Spinner Jeremy Sandia returned 2-6, adding to his 2 wickets in the 1st innings while Persaud added to his runs with 2-47, as the Guyanese bowlers toiled.
Other Round 1 games:
Trinidad & Tobago beat Jamaica by 5 wickets
Windward Islands beat Leeward Islands by 1 wicket
