Kaieteur Sports – The Guyanese contingent of Golfers received a warm welcome upon their arrival at Tobago, ahead of the Invitational Open being hosted at the Tobago Plantations Magdalena Golf Resort.
The teams of eight players were warmly welcomed on Friday, by the president of the Trinidad and Tobago Golf Association Wayne Baptiste, “We extend our arms in welcome to our Guyanese brothers and sisters and commit that this will be the beginning of a long-term relationship that will see the development of the sport in many unique ways.”

At the opening ceremony of the two day event, with 94 international golfers set to battle for top honours, Vice president of the Barbados Golf Association David Phillips also welcomed the visiting team, “This is an exciting time for Caribbean golf and we are happy to see Guyana taking a more visible role in the development of the sport.”
The Tobago Open is one of the most celebrated tournaments in the Caribbean and is being played on a tough Oceanside golf course where the wind and natural hazards add to the challenge. Thousands of golfers take on its challenge annually and now for the first time, Guyana’s golfers will be put to the test.
President of the Guyana Golf Association (GGA) Aleem Hussain thanked the host nation and expressed his gratitude to the members of the team for making the effort to travel to Tobago to participate in the event. “We are happy that both of our golf clubs in Guyana are represented here and feel that we have the ability to perform well over the coming days.”
Representing Guyana are: First Flight – Aleem Hussain, Monnaf Arjune & Rakesh Harry, Second Flight – Panko Ramsundar, Pope-Emanuel London, Third flight – Ganpat Hardeo, Ladies: Shanella London & Eureka Giddings.
