Head panel from left NSC Vice Chairman Christy Campbell, Minister of MCYS Charles Ramson Jr and Director of Sports Steve Ninvalle.
Over twelve hundred individuals eagerly seized the opportunity to participate in this groundbreaking programme, specifically designed for adults. An initiative which followed the successful conclusion of the Easter Vacation ‘Learn to Swim’ programme held in April. However, the adult leg of the Learn to Swim programme aims to provide adults with valuable learning experiences, while fostering personal growth.
The opening ceremony of the programme was graced by a distinguished panel of officials, including the Minister of MCYS, Charles Ramson Jr., the Deputy Chairperson of NSC, Christy Campbell, the Director of Sports, Steve Ninvalle, and the Assistant Director of Sports, Frankie Wilson. This adult swimming programme marked the fulfillment of a promise made by Minister Ramson Jr. during the conclusion of the youth programme, highlighting the government’s commitment to its citizens.
Addressing the gathered participants, Minister Ramson Jr. expressed his gratitude to the attendees, saying, “I’d like to thank you for your time and also for trusting us. It is of utmost importance to me that you recognize the significance of this programme, which was conceived by Vice Chairman Christy. And to see that it’s realized today. It’s because we (ministry) are honouring our words and our commitments. And we’ve been doing that over the last two years. It matters to me that’s why I make these references, because that is the principle and a hallmark of excellent leadership.”
The minister continued, “I am extremely proud that you have chosen to entrust us with your participation in this programme. I extend my best wishes to all of you and hope you achieve great success in your swimming endeavors.”
The programme will be conducted every Saturday and Sunday throughout the month of June. Registered participants can attend sessions at the National Aquatic Center on Saturdays from 14:00 to 15:00 hrs and at the Colgrain Swimming Pool on Sundays from 15:00 to 16:00 hrs. Meanwhile at the opening ceremony, NSC Vice-Chair Campbell assured the attendees that over thirty fully trained coaches would be available to assist the adult learners on their swimming journey, imparting the art and techniques of swimming.
