Kaieteur Sports – The West Indies Academy secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over the Sri Lanka Emerging team in their rain-reduced match after half-centuries from Damel Evelyn and Guyanese Kevlon Anderson.

The first ODI was reduced to 36-overs-a-side at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Ground in Colombo where a weather delay forced officials to trim the game, Sri Lanka Emerging batted first but struggled to find momentum against a disciplined Caribbean bowling attack.

The hosts were bowled out for a modest 184 runs in 33.4 overs, after the spin/pace combination of Zishan Motara (3-32) and Jediah Blades (3-42), made light work of the home team.

In response, the West Indies Academy survived a tense batting collapse fueled by Sri Lankan spinners to cross the finish line, scoring 185/8 in 31.0 overs to win with 30 balls remaining.

Evelyn stood out as the match hero with a superb, unbeaten 77 runs off 97 balls, featuring 8 boundaries which anchored the chase perfectly under pressure.

Support came from the Guyana Harpy Eagles middle-order batsman Anderson, who played a vital supporting role, striking a quick-fire 58 runs off 45 balls and combining with Evelyn for a match-winning 110-run fourth-wicket partnership.

Kavija Gamage (4-18) and Traveen Mathew (3-30), led Sri Lanka’s late fightback, but were warded off by the century stand by Evelyn and Anderson.
