(Kaieteur News) – A police constable has confessed to the murder of 26-year-old Cuban national Dailen Paneque Gómez, whose decomposed body was discovered in a clump of bushes on the East Coast of Demerara on Wednesday evening — six days after she was reported missing while on her way to work.
Paneque Gómez, a resident of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, was last seen during the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, as she left for work in the Lusignan area. When she failed to arrive, she was reported missing, triggering an investigation by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters.
Her body was recovered at approximately 19:50 hours, in a decomposed state. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) immediately classified the matter as a murder investigation.
Crime Chief and Deputy Commissioner of Police Wendell Blanhum told Kaieteur News that the police constable was arrested and confessed to killing the woman.
“The policeman confessed that he shot the victim,” Blanhum said.
Kaieteur News understands that the constable and the deceased shared an intimate relationship prior to her disappearance.
