Name Brand win second Canje/New Amsterdam Softball Cricket Cup
Kaieteur News – The 2nd annual Canje Softball Cricket Cup which was rebranded as the “Canje/New Amsterdam One Guyana Softball Cricket Cup” was played on Sunday 2nd April 2023 and saw Name Brand Softball team win the title.
The competition was played at the Goed Bananen Land Sports Ground, East Canje.
In the final, Name Brand defeated Chase X1 by 43 runs. Batting first, Name Brand made 171 for 6 in their allotment of 10 overs with Dyal top scoring with 59, Ganagram made 50 and Banks 20.
Bowling for Chase XI there was 2 wickets for Black boy, while Chase, Madan and Ravo took 1 each.
In reply Chase X1 reached 128 for 7 with Persaud top scoring with 46, while Singh made 29. Bowling for Name Brand, Kevin took 3 wickets while Gangaram snared 2 with Sanasie and Madan one each.
The winning Name Brand Team with their silverware after the competition.
Dyal was named the man of the match.
Earlier in another game, Name Brand defeated Doom Softball Team by 18runs. Batting first Name Brand reached 97- 5 in their 6 overs with Gangaram 37, Grant 24 not out and Singh 21.
Persaud picked up 2 wickets bowling for Doom. They in reply were restricted to 79-6 with Wazim and Riaz scoring 15 runs each.
Bowling for Name Brand there were two wickets each for Kevin and Banks. Gangaram was later named the man of the match.
Ministry of Natural Resources ended third. At the end of the competition Gangaram was named the MVP, Kevin the best bowler and Dyal the best batsman.
The organizers took the opportunity to thank the sponsors and fans for their support. Among the sponsors were Banks DIH Limited, Yadram Construction, A.
