Teen killed, another injured in hit-and-run accident

Kaieteur News – A 19-year-old man was early Tuesday morning killed in a hit-and-run accident on Main Street, New Amsterdam while an 18-year-old pillion rider is nursing injuries.

Dead: Vishan Ramphal

Dead is Vishan Ramphal of Lot 5 A Campbell Street, Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice.

Ramphal was riding motorcycle CJ 4962 at the time of the accident. Eighteen-year-old Renita Prechand of Williamsburg, Corentyne, Berbice was the pillion rider. She is nursing a broken leg and arm at the Georgetown Public Hospital. According to reports, Ramphal was heading north on the eastern lane at a fast rate when motorcar PJJ 3534 crashed into his motorcycle, pelting him and Prechand into the air. They landed on a concrete arch block on the western side of Main Street.

The duo was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where Ramphal was pronounced dead on arrival and Prechand was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. Police are searching for the driver of the motorcar who made good his escape.
