Skipper of the Softball Cricket Canada (SCC) and Canada-based Guyanese Looknauth Ramsuchit has expressed confidence of his team lifting the Open Category trophy at this year’s Independence three-day softball extravaganza Cup slated to bowl off today.
The tournament, which will be the 17th edition under the auspices of the New York Softball Cricket League, has attracted teams from Orlando, Florida, Canada, New York and Guyana and promised to be another softball spectacle.
Ramsuchit, who led SCC to the championship in the same category 2019 at the Toronto Cup in Canada, believes he has a balanced side to compete for the trophy.
“Our team [is] well-balanced and that has given me a lot of confidence to win the trophy; obviously competition is always stiff at these huge softball events but we can be the victorious unit by Sunday afternoon,” Ramsuchit, an attacking right-handed batsman, mentioned.
In his bowling arsenal, Ramsuchit will have dynamic all-rounder Avinash Sookdeo who is the vice-captain as well while Amit Rukhram, Riaz Kadir, Ryan Dhoray and Azam Haniff are all capable of producing the stuff.
According to Ramsuchit, who led Mercenary to jubilation last year in the Ontario Softball Cricket League Regular Season Twenty-over competition, is also having a legion of well-established batsmen and counting on their talents to do the trick.
Among them are: Sookdeo, Kadir, Avish Rukhram, Haniff, Anil Etwaroo, Wasim Haslim, Altaf Ali and two young promising brothers: Christopher and Kyle Karran and himself.
“We have prepared for the tournament and this bunch of guys is eager to go out there and perform to the best of their ability; all these are experienced players too playing consistently in Canada in competitive cricket and that would help us greatly, Ramsuchit related. Notably, Haslim plays professionally in USA on a regular basis and is deemed a prolific softball batsman over the years.
Again, the Open Category is expected to be the most competitive division and players under-40 are largely participating. Ramsuchit stated that is also about positive cricket and commitment from each teammate.
He informed too that that his approach will be very methodical and ultimately every game is to be the triumphant combination.
The other two categories at the tournament will be Over-40 (Masters) and 50, which is known as the Legends.
Meanwhile, in the Open Category, New York Cricket League All-Stars are the defending champions.
